RECRUITING: Huskers Snag 18th Commit from Enemy Territory
First Columbia, now Boulder
From Staff Reports
January 05, 2010
Nebraska’s football team didn’t make a push for Boulder, Colo., athlete Kenny Bell until late in NU’s 2009 football season; in fact, Bell, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver, didn’t take his official visit until after the Big 12 Championship game.
And then Pac 10 schools, like Arizona and California, pursued Bell’s services as the Huskers prepared for the Holiday Bowl.
Bell ended the suspense Tuesday, as he confirmed with two recruiting sites that he had committed to Nebraska - the 18th overall, and the second pure wide receiver, along with California product Quincy Enunwa.
Bell, whose skills and style recalls a hybrid of current NU receiver Antonio Bell and previous Husker commit Curtis Carter, took visits to Minnesota and Texas Tech much earlier in the year. He had offers from Colorado, Arizona State and Colorado State, as well.
A broken collarbone forced Bell to miss half of his senior season at Fairview High School in Boulder, which may have scared off some prospective recruiters. Bell returned in game seven, playing receiver, running back, quarterback, defensive back and kick returner at various times.
